So very happy to finally receive an actual diagnosis for my daughter

My visit was a complete waste of time and disheartening. Instead of telling me upfront that they couldn't help me (they could have informed me over the phone instead of wasting my time), they attempted to find something wrong with me. The doctor was completely incompetent.

Great experience

As a patient with a higher-than-average understanding of genetics, I found my experience with this geneticist disappointing. My concerns were largely dismissed, and there was minimal flexibility offered in testing options despite those concerns. The doctor appeared unprepared to engage with a more informed patient, often reverting to overly simplified explanations that did not match the depth I brought to the conversation. The interaction did not feel collaborative-it was more of a directive encounter where I was told what would happen, rather than being included in the decision-making process. Interpersonal communication skills were below average. She frequently relied on indirect language to express her opinions, which came across as defensive, and repeatedly interrupted me early in my responses-even when I was attempting to answer her own questions. Discussions of risk were similarly underwhelming, with no acknowledgment of how severity and probability might compound one another. In the end, I was the one who suggested specific conditions under which future testing might be appropriate. The doctor simply agreed without expanding or offering guidance-something I doubt would have occurred had I not raised it myself. This dynamic is troubling in any healthcare interaction, but particularly so in a system where patients often face limited choices and high costs. When access is constrained, a dismissive or rigid approach can undermine patient care and, as in my case, erode trust in the provider's judgment.
