Denise Y. Alveranga, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.S.N., completed her two-year nephrology fellowship at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. In addition, she completed a clinical fellowship in medicine at Columbia University in New York. Her medicine residency was completed at Harlem Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Alveranga is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and nephrology. She was chairman of the UNOS Minority Affairs Committee from 1994 to 1996, and has served on the UNOS Board of Directors. She has served on Secretary Tommy Thompson's Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation and previously served on the American Society of Transplantation Minority Affairs Committee. She is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and has experience in all aspects of nephrology, hypertension, and immunology. Since 1983, she has been very involved in research, having co-authored several published papers about hypertension, nephropathy, and transplantation. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American Society of Nephrology, and a member of numerous professional and scientific societies including the International Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Transplant Physicians, and the American Medical Association, to name a few.
