Dr. Mungara is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon at USF Health who specializes in the treatment of complex heart, lung, and vascular conditions. His clinical expertise includes coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valvular heart disease, aortic disorders, atrial fibrillation, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Mungara serves as an assistant professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation, where he is committed to educating and mentoring future cardiovascular surgeons. Dr. Mungara earned his medical degree from Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Mysore, India. He completed general surgery residency training at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics under the mentorship of Dr. Lucian Lozonschi, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Tampa General Hospital. Before joining USF Health, Dr. Mungara served as Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Monument Health in Rapid City, South Dakota. He is an active member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and has contributed to numerous research initiatives, publications, and national presentations focused on advancing cardiothoracic surgery.
